Favorite Flicks of 2008

I never did reveal my favorite movies of 2008. Well, here they are:

1). The Dark Knight. While not necessarily the best representation of Batman on film (I think that honor is a tie between Batman Begins and Mask of the Phantasm), it is easily the best representation of the Joker outside of the comic books and the most fully realized live action form of the world of Batman. Beyond that, it's a great flick about terrorism, examining just what depths people will sink to in the face of fear and tragedy.

2). Iron Man. Leave it to director John Favreau and the brilliant performance of Robert Downey Jr. to take one of Marvel Comic's second-tier characters and turn him into an A-list superhero movie star. A fun movie, the best part is not the so/so action sequences but the charisma that Downey endows upon Tony Stark.

3). Pineapple Express. Seth Rogan and James Franco sell their performances so solidly that they take what should have been an average flick and make it fun. And while the two leads have great chemistry, the flick belongs to Danny McBride, who steals the show for the third straight movie I've seen him in (Tropic Thunder and Hot Rod being the other two). Fun stuff.

1). Superbad
2). Knocked Up
3). Juno

2006:
1). Pan's Labyrinth
2). Casino Royale
3). The Prestige
